Training

Welcome to training with the South Coast Roadrunners. We welcome all levels to train with us. We have a very diverse group with varying talent, goals, and time commitments with some following a formal training program focused on a particular race and others who have a less structured approach. Those who have a specific goal or who are less experienced and would like additional guidance will benefit tremendously from a more structured training program.

Danny Stein and Molly Donnellan are two club members that have very graciously served as Club Coaches for the last several years. They both come with a wealth of experience and have had a range of coaching successes; from assisting athletes to complete their first race, to helping experienced runners overcome plateaus and hit new PRs, to successully guiding Olympic caliber runners to reach their goals of running in the US Olympic Trials.

As a member of South Coast Roadrunners, you have several training options. One is simply to come and run with the group as your schedule permits. Belonging to a group will likely increase the regularity, pace and distance of your workouts and you’ll see an improvement in your fitness and race performance.

If you are interested in a more structured approach, you are at the right place. We have provided links (to the right) to runnersworld.com which has a wealth of free training information, including its Smart Coach feature where you can enter information about your goal race and goal time and it will generate a customized training program for you.

In addition, each season (two per year) Danny will post his training template here (for now please take a look at the suggested training links on the right until next season starts). This template will be an outline of a training program that interested athletes can use to customize their training plans for the season. The training program for each season will include the local races during that season that are suggested to check progress. With these resources, you can develop your own training program. After having done so, if you have questions, either Molly or Danny would be happy to discuss training suggestions or answer questions before or after any SCRR Club run.

Additionally, Danny is available for custom training program development and hands on coaching. Danny will customize each athlete’s training schedule and will provide goal splits for tempo and track workouts based on the abilities and goals of the individual. His program also includes a web based training log, which each athlete is required to keep current. These logs will be reviewed between Danny and each athlete to ensure develop is on the correct path and to make necessary adjustments throughout the season. If you are interested in joining this type of training group with hands on coaching, please contact Danny Stein with any questions.
